Budget haul

Budget haul

Totally making up for the Michael Kors debacle; I popped into H & M (after winding my way through J. Crew and their 25% off sale - nothing needed to be added that I didn't already have). I found a similar fisherman sweater at a third of the price of the Michael Kors version, plus picked up a cozy grey sweater & infinity scarf (for our chilly Southern California fall - I jest). Total cost was about $56.

While at Target, I nabbed two super soft, very versatile sweaters (both under $25 each). These are great to throw on, and if they only last one season, I'm happy.

Not shown: the Calvin Klein black wedge pumps I also picked up at Nordstrom Rack. I saw them last week and have been thinking about them all week. It's amazing they were still there!

Now we just need the weather to cooperate and cool off.

MICHAEL Michael Kors Fail.

I don't usually personally review clothes. But this turned out to be such an epic fail, I couldn't help but warn others about what looks like a perfect piece for fall, however, an important style element is left out of the description.

Who doesn't love a beautiful fisherman sweater? It's probably one of the best staples in a wardrobe, and I've been looking for the perfect one for quite a while. I loved this online, and from the description (via Neiman Marcus), it looked to be my answer...

  • Parchment cable knit with ribbed trim (check)
  • Crew neckline (check)
  • Relaxed fit (check check)
  • Hem hits below hip (hells yes)
  • Cotton (sure, okay)
  • Imported (hmmm, but okay)

So, what's the problem?

Holy Batsleeves! No. That does not work for me. First of all, it's ugly. Second of all, I was picturing this under a black leather jacket - not going to happen. Not under a leather jacket, not under a trench. Not under anything.

Such an epic fail, I'm so disappointed. Back to haunting the internet for the perfect fisherman sweater....

True Story.

I walked into the living room last week, and Scott was sitting on the couch with a smirk on his face, watching True Stories. I remember when we originally saw it, in 1986 when it was released, thinking it was brilliant. I just couldn't get into it 26 years later.

But I recently found this clip of David Byrne with St. Vincent and I was completely mesmerized. He's still got it, and he shakes it.

Sunday Brunch....

In real life - I swapped out the blouse (the ivory was a little dull), although, I'm not crushing on the peplum style.

We had an amazing brunch at Trump National Golf Course (and luckily paced ourselves, truly decadent; I never eat that much!)

It was a ridiculous day on the coast - I love living here!

fall inspiration

fall inspiration

I bought those booties yesterday at Nordstrom Rack. I actually saw them last week and couldn't stop thinking about them. They're by Cole Haan and were priced at $129.00. You know what they say about the Rack, right? If you see it and you want it, buy it. I couldn't believe they were still there when I went back, so yes, I scooped them up. They are a half size larger than what I usually wear, but fit well.

I didn't think my husband would be a fan, but he said they looked bitchy, in a good way. Well, okaaaay. I think he's just happy I bought heels for a change.

While this is usually our typical Indian summer, it's been hotter than normal. So naturally I've been fantasizing about real fall weather; the season we really don't have here in Southern California near the coast. I'm dying to style those little booties this way and I'm also crushing on that Michael Kors fisherman sweater that was recently modeled by Alexandra Richards in this months' Lucky magazine.
