A fresh start

Even though I relinquished my home office to a boy several years ago (who is now 3000 miles away at college), I still find myself coveting the perfect office set up. My home office is now portable, usually stationed at the dining room table (the other one, in the other room, that we don't use - typical?), I still like to have pretty desktop items nearby. This is how I'm putting together my new year desktop - clockwise from top:

Pre-holiday shopping

Pre-holiday shopping

I couldn't help it, the deals were too good to pass up!
  1. Banana Republic: Cable neck turtleneck (in burgundy) on sale for $59.99, minus 40% = $35.99
  2.  J. Crew: Classic rinse Bootcut Jeans on sale for $49.99, minus 30% = $34.99
  3.  J. Crew: Perfect-fit Long Sleeve Crew (you can never have too many of these) on sale for $14.99, minus 30% = $10.49
  4. and finally, J. Crew: MacAlister Wedge Booties: $198.00 minus 30% = $138.61
The wedge booties were the coup - I've been looking everywhere for a pair, and I normally would not have spent that much on these online without trying them on. Luckily, they had them in store, and after trying them on, I had to buy them because they were SO comfortable!

Now I'm just wondering what the after Christmas sales will bring :)

Weekend wear...

ootd 12.22.12

The weekend is finally here, and so is some much needed time off from the day job! I'm free until January 3, and I'll be spending a good portion of my days in casual comfort. Every year I say I'm going to spend the time off getting organized and cleaning out the closet and drawers, and every year I find other, more exciting, ways to spend my time. If I can at least tackle one thing (closet, drawers or jewelry organization), I'll call it a success.

Interior Crush

I came across this interior shot last weekend while perusing Pinterest, and I can't get it out of my head. It's just so simple, classic and elegant ~ the epitome of sophistication. It reminded me, again, of how much my tastes have changed over the years. Gone are the cluttered, repainted, chintzy and toile rooms.  Give me uncluttered, clean and free.

Lazy Sunday

Lazy Sunday

My favorite kind of day. After a quick run to the market, I'll make my favorite soup - recipe below. It's delish on a day like today.

Tomato Bisque Soup
1 zucchini
1 yellow squash
1 carrot
1/2 onion

All of the above should be medium sized and chopped small.

1 tbl. chopped garlic
2 tbl. olive oil
1/2 tsp. dried oregano
1/2 tsp. dried basil
salt & pepper to taste

8 cups diced tomatos & juice (4 - 14.5 oz. cans)
4 cups tomato puree ( 1 - 28 oz. can)
8 oz. heavy cream
Fresh croutons
Pesto sauce
Freshly grated parmesan cheese

Saute all of the vegetables until tender in a large pot. Add the tomatoes, herbs and seasoning, and cook for 25 minutes. Add to blender in small batches, and blend to a thick consistency.

Return to pot and add heavy cream, stirring consistently for 10 minutes over a low flame. Ladle into bowls and top with croutons, a dollop of pesto and freshly grated parmesan cheese. Enjoy in front of a roaring fire.
