This is Sunday. I've hit the farmers' market, or Trader Joe's, or Whole Foods (sometimes all three!) and I separate and wash and get ready to make a batch of juice that will last about 2 days, maybe 3. My friends might say I'm a health nut; I would say that I just prefer to feed my body well because I know what a huge effect it has on my well being.
Todays concoction is a mixture of kale, 2 carrots, 2 stalks of celery, a knob of ginger, watercress, some parsley, 1 fennel bulb and 1 apple. It all goes through the juicer (I have a Jack Lalaine, but I'm about to upgrade, it's just not keeping up with me!) and gets stored in a glass container. Serious deliciousness.

I really do dress like this on the weekend. Ask my husband. He'll walk in, and say, "well, don't you look put together". And then I smile, because that's my objective.
When I went back to work full time 2 1/2 years ago, I started dressing up again. Even though I work in a casual office, I get dressed up. Which my colleagues like, since we work in a high end, luxury industry and really never know when a client will stop by. So when the weekend rolls around, I don't lounge around in sweat pants, I don't run my errands in exercise gear; I actually get dressed up (or dressed down, as the case may be). To [slightly] paraphrase Ines de la Fressange (whom I completely adore), "Age is no excuse for giving up and letting go. It's the opposite, in fact. As you get older, you have to be more vigilant about your sense of style, make more effort and not let it all slide." And that became my mantra - always make an effort.
I try, and I always feel so much better. It actually doesn't take much effort. You can keep it pretty simple. As long as your clothes are clean and well matched, you have a minimum amount of make up (to hide the dark circles, and a little blush - of course, the mascara is a real eye opener!), you can do it! Add a scarf, and honestly, you're ready to go anywhere.

I cannot believe we're already halfway through January. I was going to try to make this a more regular occurrence, but really, I have to just go with the flow. Life gets in the way. More importantly, it's Friday, I'm going casual and quite happy about it. It sets the tone for the beginning of the weekend, and that mindset is ever so important after these crazy weeks at work. Can't wait for sushi o'clock and that cup of sake. Cheers!

I was out running errands yesterday, and knowing myself (and the fact that I can't let myself get too hungry), I knew I had to make a lunch pitstop. I stopped at Veggie Grill, which is one my favorite quick go-to places, and indulged in their All Hail Kale salad. OMG. How I love that salad! It's filled with so much deliciousness, and it's so good for you.
As I'm always looking for good ideas for a great weekday lunch to bring to the office, as soon as I got home I started Googling the recipe. Here it is, in its' entirety (nutritional information here). For my purposes, I think I would make a smaller portion (it will still last more than one day) and maybe omit the walnuts and increase the quinoa.
